We met in the conference room and all the managers
were sitting around the table, the VP sitting at one
end. I started my presentation and as I was talking,
I passed out the results of my evaluation for each
store for everyone to see.
Just seconds into my presentation the VP shouts out
" Look at _______'s store. He is the worst. " The entire
room started looking at the floor and I could tell they
were all wishing that a magic door would open so
they could escape what was to come next.
I immediately tried to save the poor SM by saying
something like " This is an opportunity. These are just
the numbers. We need to look at how training can
impact these results " , etc.... and the VP was having
none of it.
He then began to berate individual SM's on different
numbers and by the end of the presentation I felt like
I was going to need an escort to get out of the room.
This is not accountability.
It's hard to inspire people to achieve stated goals if
all you are doing is making them look at the floor.
Accountability is put together with two words...account
and ability. The account is what we expect, the
ability is what we improve.
ADDING .3 PER REPAIR ORDER
IS A CHALLENGE.
However, if you have the process in place, train, coach,
and monitor the use of that process, while reducing
wasted technician time, improving production, and
holding people accountable for their performance using
written goals and standards of conduct, you will increase
sales per repair order by .3 or more!
