RON: From your perspective, what is the biggest opportunity
for dealerships on the service drive?
DARIN: The oil change! This is the most performed
service at nearly every dealership, with the lowest upsell
revenue. You MUST own the oil change and retain
the customer for the future.
I believe that every oil change customer should be presented
with options, not just a basic oil change.
An example is a Good, Better, Best style of oil change
menu. Simply putting the options in front of the customer
and asking them to choose. This allows the addition
of wiper blades, air filters, tire rotations, other
products, etc. as options for the customer to decide
upon. The closing ratio of the Better or Best package
is over 60% if the advisors present it properly.
Your goal should be: Make every customer make a decision,
every time.
RON: What were some of the challenges you faced in
the past year and how did you overcome them?
DARIN: COVID-19 and supply chain issues have been
our primary challenges.
COVID-19: We formed a COVID-19 committee to monitor
policies, testing protocols, and compliance. The
committee has been making recommendations to Senior
Management since the beginning of the pandemic
along with monitoring personnel cases and testing.
We were able to secure Molecular Diagnostics test kits
for our employees as needed, as well as digital thermometers
for visitors and anyone with symptoms to
protect our staff.
Supply Chain: Our Procurement team monitors raw
material availability daily. Not unlike most industries,
some of our raw materials have been delayed, in short
supply, or not available at all.
BG's Product Technology and Operations teams
worked on alternative formulations and options for
several of our products to continue to provide products
and equipment for our Distributors and their customers.
Our goal is to have an alternate option for as
many of our needed supplies as possible.
