ALIGNMENT BAY CAPACITY The first measurement is ALIGNMENT BAY CAPACITY (ABC). To maximize the potential from your alignment bay, you must know how many you need to sell to be fully utilized. Unlike diagnostic and repair work, you have complete control over your ability to fill this bay, and understanding what the " number " you need to sell for full utilization is step one in maximizing this bay. Calculating your ABC is simple. You need two numbers: the hours the bay is available for work and the average efficiency of the technician(s) performing the alignments. The available bay hours are simply the hours you are open. The average tech efficiency could take a little work to get, but is easy to calculate if you know the actual time it takes a tech to complete an alignment vs. the booked hours paid. These two numbers calculate efficiency. You can do this math or you can use an industry average of 140%, which assumes an alignment pays one hour and typically a tech can complete one in 7/10ths. The example below shows a typical ABC calculation: * 9 (hours bay is available) x 140% efficiency = 12.6 available alignment hours * At 7/10th per alignment, 100% ABC = 18 alignments 62
