Automotive recently decreased its
new car sales forecast from 15.3 million
to 14.4 million. Sales have been
significantly impacted by a lack of
new vehicle buyers in the market
coupled with a lack of inventory.
When the pandemic hit, new car
sales weren't the only area of the
dealership affected. Service and
parts also took a major hit. According
to NADA's 2019 and 2020 annual
reports, dealers across the U.S. lost $6 billion in sales in
the parts department. However, despite the downturn
in vehicle and parts sales, dealers selling parts online
saw a different outcome. A 2021 report from RevolutionParts
showed that dealers selling online through
the RevolutionParts platform saw a 27% increase in online
parts sales compared to the previous year.

While other factors influenced the
rise in online sales (e.g., more people
shopped online to avoid the virus),
one thing we should take away is the
significant positive impact of adding
online selling channels to the parts
department. Not only does selling
parts online open a dealer's parts
business to buyers across the country,
it also allows them to be competitive
against other dealers and aftermarket
sellers.

Over the past two years, COVID created a lasting impact.
The scarcity of semiconductors significantly disrupted
the ability to produce new vehicles and drove up
the buyer's cost, making purchasing a new vehicle more
