their level of confidence in themselves and the level of
confidence they feel you have in them. Plus, you've taken
some " busy " work off your plate and given yourself
the opportunity to be more impactful to your department
and team members.
PEOPLE REPEAT WHAT GETS PRAISED
Furthermore, if you recognize them for learning and
flourishing in those elements, they will want to do it
again and again because people repeat what gets
praised. Louder for those in the back: people repeat
what gets praised!
your job to get those tasks done through the team you
are now developing. By doing the " busy " work you are
preventing those team members from growing and understanding
their role. You are comfortable completing
those tasks and it's easy to revert to your comfort zone.
After all, remember, you were the best. If we reverse that
mind set and spend more time teaching and coaching
those team members to handle all aspects of their job,
Now that your team has picked up the ball and is running
with it, you can focus on some of the things that
you've had on your list but could never find the time to
address. Let's start with prioritizing.
WHAT IS THE NEXT PRIORITY FOR
YOUR BUSINESS
You cannot travel a journey of 1000 miles without traveling
that first mile. You cannot travel all 1000 miles at one
time. You take each mile one by one. Step by step. That
first mile is the next thing you need to work on to make
some type of improvement within your business. There
is always that next first mile to embark on because quite
frankly, it's not a destination, it's a journey. With a journey,
there is no finish line. You are always working on
your next first mile.

TRAINING WORKSHOP
Getting back to NADA 2023, I had the opportunity to
attend several workshops including the one by John
Thomas speaking about creating a training department.
This was sentimental to me because it is something that
we have been passionate about for years here at Bozard
Ford Lincoln. The industry has been short of skilled
technicians for as long as I have been in the industry, if
not longer. Without creating the technicians of tomorrow
and providing a path for them, our industry will continue
to struggle. The demand will continue to rise in an
effort to maintain and service the complex vehicles of
today as well as the ones coming tomorrow.
